Cars getting transformed

最新型のBMWをショーウインドウで眺めていて、最近のヘッドライトデザインの傾向が一段と鮮明になりました。ドイツ車に限ったことなのかもしれませんが、映画版トランスフォーマーの眼球にそっくりです。映画が先か、車が先かは別として、ヘッドライトをより目玉っぽくしつつ、「機械」であることも強調しよう、と訴えている感じです。目に似ていても、どことなく無機質な感じが漂うからです。ドイツ車はいつでも無機質だ、と言われればそうなのかもしれませんが（英語で書くとちょっと気まずい雰囲気が漂うので、他国の文化を話題にする際には国際的にはマイナーな日本語で。。）

あまり人間っぽい目にデザインすると、かつてのトヨタのCMみたいになってしまうし、かといってどうやって人間に似せようかな。。と車デザイナーが悩んでいる際に、映画とランスフォーマーが公開され、おおこんだけ映画がはやればもう機械的な目に対する違和感はないのだろう、じゃ遠慮なく。。と車会社が考えてこういう目にした、かは不明です。

写真を撮りそびれたけど、「目」を強調するために昼間でも「アイシャドウ」の下部ラインを光らせている（純正の）アウディ（BMWか？）を見かけました。やりすぎ。でも、目玉、がキャラクターを決める、ということは学習できました。

Dance Dance Dance

At Taipei 101 shopping mall, four dancers share their best moves in front of a curious audience. I think the mall is the best place to practice curing our stage phobia - there is always someone to watch you, most of them with idle time, there as customers but undemanding as an audience. The audience understands they get what they pay for ($0). The width of the mall strip naturally limits the size of the crowd to a comfortable under-100 zone. There are just enough amount of people not to make you feel lonely + no demanding customers so you have nothing to lose + no large audience so you won't feel any pressure.

Just a caution note to the left guy: do not wear (color-less) glasses, unless you are Elton John and you wear a pink frame peppered by fake diamonds. Also you need to sing awesome songs so awesome the audience can totally not focus on the costume you are wearing.

Side note: In the '70s and '80s, the Japanese media tried their best not to spotlight Elton John's sexual identity, because Your Song was the de-facto date song and more importantly, also a children's song (at least in my elementary school). It worked. If we pulled a poll back then, a majority of Japanese would not know he loves men (or dismiss the news as mere noise - who wants their fantasy to be ruined?). There are no statistics to support this claim, but in the 90s they made a film based on that famous song as a love story between a man and a woman.

Today, the time has changed I hope.

Steel Wheels after all these years

ローリング・ストーンズの関連グッズと言えばいまだに1989年のSteel Wheelsとそのツアーで使用されたベロデザインが使用されている。もはや元のコンサートツアーの意味を超えて、アイコンになってしまった。彼らは60年代から活躍しているから、20年以上活動した後のイメージがある意味象徴的に使われ、未だにファッションとして流通しているのは、世界的に見ても希有なのではないだろうか？

普通、アーティストを象徴するモチーフは彼らの全盛期から取られる。ローリング・ストーンズの場合、明らかにビートルズと同時期の60年代中期がそれだ。1990年頃だったか、キース・リチャーズが以前雑誌の取材に答えて、自分は今でも「サティスファクション」や「黒く塗れ」などを超える最高の名曲を作ろうとしているのだ、と答えて感動的だったのだけど、たとえ彼自身が目標を高く持っていても現実は厳しい。

Steel Wheelsは確かに久々の大ヒットとなったし、Rock in a Hard Placeは未だに歌われているし、彼らにとっては最後のあだ花（失礼）なのだけど、でも80年代だ。ある意味「失われた10年」のように語られるこの時代に作られたものが残っていて、初期のイメージがかき消されている（音楽は別として）ことをローリング・ストーンズ自身が最も驚いているかもしれない。

でも、1989年にしたって20年前の話だ。今、1989年だったら、1969年の品を眺めているのと同じだ。そういう意味では、20年たって「骨董品」と化したのだからこのベロデザインのTシャツが出回っているのは不思議な現象ではない、はずだ。それがどうも変に見えるのは、自分が1989年にリアルタイムでSteel Wheelsを聴いていた記憶があり、しかもその当時は「斬新なスタイルでストーンズ復活」ととらえられていたからだ。一旦「斬新」と覚えると多分ずっと自分の中では「斬新」なままで、「骨董」としてとらえることに違和感があるのでは、と思う。

Name

At the back of the buses in Taipei, we see the driver's name alongside the company nameplate. Officially, the main reason for this might be so citizens can call the local authority when 'something' happens. But it means something more important for the drivers themselves. They have names.

Not all of us notice the driver's name. Most of us do not remember it. But for the drivers it should be huge. Having a name leads to being remembered, which leads to leaving a footprint in this world. I haven't driven a bus but probably I am not off-target when I say it is not one of the more inspiring jobs. But having a name should make a difference - is this the reason why bus drivers in Taipei are so well-mannered, friendly, and responsible? Some even say 'Hello' and 'Thank you' when passengers get on or off the bus. Well, their driving manners are comparable to 15-year olds playing Gran Tourismo on Play Stations, but that might due to the...culture...

Another example of acknowledging the names of employees around us are Starbucks and IKEA. The latter case might not be so, since the designers are already well-known before they have started gigs in IKEA, but I suspect their creation of attractive household items at reasonable prices (Northern-European standard) gives job satisfaction to the designers whose names are not only mentioned, but also engraved in their works. In Starbucks they not only introduce themselves but also remembers our names. You are remembered by your name, with a free couch accompanied with a latte for two hours at only $4-5. Who can resist?

There is also the example of TGI Friday, where employees introduce themselves and offer jacked-up services (and prices). The conclusion? Nobody wants to remain nameless, so give them their identities and show them to everybody - good for business, customers, and employees. Isn't this the natural right for all of us? When did being anonymous become the de-facto standard for service workers?

MRT map, winner takes it all, long tail

台北地下鉄駅の出入り口にはわかりやすい周辺地図が必ず（ポイントです）あります。既に４年、台北で生活しており地下鉄は最も頻繁に利用する交通機関なのですが、「地図がかならずある」というのがこれほど安心感を与えてくれるのか、とほぼ毎回現在位置を確認する際に感じます。
よく考えると、行き先が決まっており、かつ何度も来たことがある場合でない限り、まず地図を確認しています。そんなに利用する必要などないはずです。文字通り迷路のような東京では地図の場所を覚えておくことが初めて利用した駅での鉄則でしたが、十字路が整然と並び、地下鉄も十字に走る台北ではその必要性はあまりないはずです。
なのによく地図を見る理由は、習慣化しているから、というのに加えて、いつでもあるのだからいつでも利用できる、という理由で周りの地理をあまり覚えようとしないのと両方あるような気がします。いつだって使えるものは、ありがたみを半ば忘れて便利に使い続けてしまい、いつのまにか自分で学習することを忘れる、という現象が起こっているのでしょう。
周辺の地理は最初に覚えてしまい、自由に行動したほうが理にかなっているのに、待ち時間を気にしながら地図を見るのは割に会わないはずなのに、習慣になるとそのことに疑問を持たないものだ、と感じた次第です。
地図のおまけとして、周辺の主な建築物？が記載されていますがこれは使った覚えが無い。いや、有名なデパートやらレストランやらが書かれていて便利なはずなのに、そこにいく場合以外に注意を向けません。地図の中でもかなりのエネルギーとスペースを割かれている割に使っていないのはなぜか、と考えると、「そこを見れば必ず情報がある」わけではないからでしょう。地図そのものは必ずあるから安心して無意識のうちに見るけど、地図の中の情報は取捨選択が激しく（どの店が掲載されるか、で皆さん血を流されてるのでしょうけど、その苦労はあまり報われていないかも）、いったん「使えないな」と思われると放っておかれる、ということのようです。
「そこにいけば、必ず自分の欲しい物がある」サービスは自分でも意識しないほど使い込み、「よくできているんだけど、自分の欲しいものがある訳ではない」サービスは前者の半分どころか数パーセントの注意しか向けてもらえない、という構図が見えてきます。これは世の中で成功しているサービスについての現在の法則だ、とよく耳にしますがこのことでしょうか。Winner takes it all.
グーグルとその他、スターバックスとその他、iPodとその他。。。ロングテールの世界だ、弱者でも生きていけるぞ、という法則がある一方、弱者は（長いけれど）恐竜の尻尾にすぎず、突出した頭は一つの組織・個人で占められる、という現実は存在するし、自分たちも実感しないうちにそれに手を貸しています。自分も世の傾向に拍車をかけているのだ、とわかると、こうした「トレンド」に対する見方も安全な傍観者のそれから背筋の少し寒い当事者のそれに変わる。。はずですが、あまり背筋が寒いと怖いから傍観者の立場に慌てて戻り、でも行動は変わらないからトレンドに力を貸して強化し、傍観者としてそれを見て納得して自己肯定感を支え、でも背筋が寒いのは変わらず、という構図は昨今のニュース報道とそれに対する（自分を含めて）反応を見て感じることでもあります。みんなつながっているのだろうか。

Evolution of iPhone killers

For a while after iPhone came out, everybody rushed into creating all-touch sensitive, all-flat, all-screen, no-button devices. One even claimed their look-alike was ahead of iPhone. (On searching for the news link, I found there was an imitation improvement upon imitation improvement - the Armani phone?)

Well that war is long over. Nobody does iPhone better than Apple does, just as in the Starbucks coffee wars. It is a sort-of free world, you are allowed to coexist with the 'one', but you can never beat it - ideally. In case of Netbook, I am not sure if Asus has maintained its innovative lead with Eee PC - looks like it is still one of the biggest players, but not quite 'the one'. We can also take a look at another war that is supposedly going to take place: Nintendo vs. The Others. My bet is that while the 'other two' are busy updating their knives into machine-guns, Nintendo is busy building industries and houses for which warriors in 'MS kingdom' or 'Sonyland' might just abandon their weapon and head toward.

Back to the iPhone killers, Smartphone makers are waking up from their dreams and have started to do something different from iPhone. Large screen stays - everybody got accustomed to it, so keep it that way - but no more the all-flat panel. Bringing back the keyboard has already turned into a red ocean strategy, a bloody sea awaited by the sharks called BlackBerry. The answer? Walk the middle.

The latest smartphones are increasingly becoming hybrids between no keys and more keys. The new HTC in the photo looks promising: it has the trackball that made the BlackBerry famous for its ease of use. The HTC has just enough buttons to save users from being frustrated by the no-response finger tap dancing, and it kept the screen large. At a glance, looks like they got the right balance. On the other hand, that 'ideal balance' so much resembles the original Palm PDA...

Palm pioneered a new market, then smartphones with keyboards took it over, but users got tired of a thousand buttons, and finally here came the iPhone -- at last things are going back to the original... Of course the iPhone (no button) stays, but looking at the rest, we again can appreciate how innovative the original Palm was. They just nailed it in the beginning, that is why other companies are falling back on it today.

Secret room

Haven't we all played inside the 'no access' zones, catching cheap thrills (sometimes real thrills) hiding and seeking behind the bricks and wrecks? The concept of secret doors leading to a better/worse place has been used for who knows how many times in fictions, because hiding in the dark is one of our fundamental fantasies: a secret route leading to a different world. Maybe it's just loser's illusion. No, it can't be.

Here we have another secret door in the corner of the subway platform. Pipe chase? The name announces itself loud. Chasing around with pipes? Is this encouraging us to go inside? The Chinese name says 'Pipe Maintenance Room' but apparently that is a typo.

地下鉄のメンテナンスルームが「パイプチェイス」と名付けられてひっそりとホームの片隅に放置されています。パイプチェイス。。古き良き任天堂のファミコンゲームになりそうです。マリオが（配管工ですから）逃げ回るパイプをつかまえ、時間内に水漏れを直し、炎に包まれるピーチ姫スプリンクラーをかけろ！となるはずです。もし作られていなければ、任天堂DSでは誰でもプチゲームが作れるソフトを販売していると聞くので、やれるかもしれません。

それはともかく、こうした扉というのは、わざわざ「中に入って探検してください」と言っているようなもので、行列があちこちでできる台北でも、ここがいつでも静かなのはなにかアンバランスな感じです。

Fairness is not about equal numbers

台北の地下鉄には改札を入らなくても使える無料のトイレがほぼ完備しています。トイレットペーパー付きです。しかも、車いす用に特等室（はい、使いました）もあります。これが素晴しくてなんでしょう？

で、男女のトイレが仲良く並んでいるのは良いのですが、女性側に長い列が形成されるのを改めて見ると、全体のデザインが整然としているためによけいに目立ちます。並んでいる側にしても、自分がこれからトイレに入ろうとしてるのを、結構な頻度で膨大な地下鉄の利用客全員に見られる、というのは一種の悟りの境地にいたるための修行になるかもしれません。

男女平等、とは言ってもまだ平等＝数合わせ、でしかないのが現状だろう、と感じます。優位に立っている側は、（トイレの）数が同じだからそれで良いだろう、と疑いすらしないかもしれません。自分も、こうした列を日常的に目にしない限りそう思っていたでしょう。本気で平等にするならば、機会平等にするべきで、トイレを利用する機会（頻度）を平等にするためには女性用のトイレを男性用より大きく、多く作る必要があります。タンクの大きさが元々違うのだから。当たり前ですね。

トイレのように一度でも使えば誰でもわかる切実な問題から、社会全体のレベルが推し量れるのではないか、と想像します。女性の数が減少し、男性が少ない嫁を争奪しているとうわさされる中国では、他の国をすっとばして平等を達成し、その平等すら飛ばして女性蔑視から男性蔑視に移行するかも。世界全体の傾向としては女性の立場が確実に向上しているとは思います。たぶん、女性の労働力を使わないと経済がまわらない、という身もふたもない理由から機会向上の糸口は始まるのでしょう。

まとめると、格差または不平等解消は次のような段階を経るかも。
段階１：（劣勢に立たされている側の）協力を得ないと優位側が困る、という理由から解消が始まる
段階２：平等＝数合わせ　が起こり、まずは平等が達成された、と優位側が思いたがる
段階３その１：優位側も劣勢側も成熟して理性を駆使してくると、初めて機会平等が起こる（多分ほんの例外）
段階３その２：理性がともなわずに劣勢側が権力を握ると、立場が逆転して段階１へ戻る（多分ほとんどの場合）
他の不平等の問題でも、同じような法則？が当てはまるでしょうか。

Self-mockery is the only safe way to go

A lovely sign depicting a good-old manual worker with his hat. That triangle hat is the point. If this sign were displayed in other (particularly in the Western) countries...it would have been taken as racism, an attack against China, ignorance, on and on. But this is in Taiwan, and the sign was most likely designed by locals, no doubt authorized by locals. We can guesstimate the triangle hat is no longer a symbol, at least locally, which recalls the caricatured Chinese worker/businessman/opium den owner with the tiny mustache.

Maybe the hat image was overused beyond the original context because it was so convenient for identifying people from China in drawings, photos, or movies. I also think about the turban from India - I used to believe all people in India wore turban until only several years ago. As adults we all know these are inaccurate, biased conceptions but it is still hard to shake off something that was ingrained when we were kids.

Such a tiny part in the whole design has enough power to completely change the perspective and impression - is it something called the power of design? Also, is this why building a shape/face recognition program is so challenging? We have a huge amount of memory buried somewhere inside our body. The brain, amazingly, picks up the relevant parts in nanoseconds and reconstructs old images, sounds, smells that let us recall figures associated with that symbol... As a search engine maybe we are slower than Google, but definitely more accurate (even selectively accurate). As a compiling program no application ever ade is close to our brain's reconstruction capability.

Airbrush

The poster from Night at the Museum: Battle of Smithsonian is up and large. A popcorn movie in the truest sense - absurd, fun, nothing remains in our head after two hours. The first movie delivered exactly what it promised and more...Dick Van Dyke! and less...it was a bad movie. People had a lot of opinions about Night at the Museum but it taught us two valuable lessons: what we say (that movie sucks) and what we do (er...saw it too) are different, and there are such things as good movies and bad movies, objective and measureable.

Is this one going to live up the hype (bigger, longer, worse)? Not sure, but at least it taught us another valuable lesson. There is such a thing as too much Photoshopping. I mean, that woman next to Ben Stiller is Amy Adams. So her character is supposed to have a plastic surgery around her eyes, after being resurrected in the 21st century?

Adobe insists Photoshop is not a verb...funny, turning a product name into a verb is the holy grail of any product marketing but they copped out, or tried to. Too late, Adobe.

Playing with Pink Noise

I am probably the 100,000th person who stumbled upon a Kaki King performance and regardless of what he had been doing, spent the next two hours viewing it repeatedly.

It was supposed to be just another TED talk, one of the lesser interesting presentations sandwiched between celebrity talks - Al Gore, Shai Agassi, Michelle Obama... And yes in the beginning it did sound like an art project, one of those mixing different noises to make a 'meaning' plus quiet applause out of obligation. One minute into the music, I started feeling something was touching my nerve in the same way she was touching the guitar strings. It was a moment of synchronization which hadn't happened to me for... twenty years or so? For a moment I was a kid, a happy kid, believing anything was possible in this world. I didn't know that raw emotion still existed inside me.

A week later I watched Joe Satriani with his amazing fingertaps on Surfing with the Alien, my favorite guitar solo performance from the past. It had become just another heavy metal riff. I am sure I will keep admiring Joe Satriani and other Hard Rock guitarists' skills, but I doubt I will ever be in love with their playing any more. My affection for heavy metal guitar playing was destroyed by a single performance from an Indie artist. There is a great amount of debate on whether her skills are godly or not, but does that matter?

The great news is that she (and her label) is so gracious about sharing their music on YouTube. (But her music videos are not as awe-inspiring as her music...)

Card sensor in Taipei MRT

Taipei MRT (meto system) is one of the most efficient, user-friendly, and reasonable public communication system I have ever experienced. Almost any item inside this system has a trace of deep consideration and user-friendliness.
One of the examples of greatness is immediately available at the entrance: the ticket sensor. Placed just at the height of adult wrists, neatly facing the customers, this sensor not only shows people where they should put their (tickets) on but also lets them do that smoothly, as they walk along.
As a result I seldom see a long line formed in front of the MRT entrance even in a packed rush hour, only to be surprised by the number of people crushing against each other downstairs. Do lobsters feel this way in their cage at the bottom of the sea? The difference is they have no chance to reapply what they have learned to escape, but we humans are given multiple chances and still fall into the same trap, same surprise.

台北のMRT（地下鉄）システムはおそらく世界でも最も快適、効率的、かつお得な値段の公共機関（の一つです。最近どうも断定するとどんなけちをつけられるかわからない、という恐怖にすくんでいます。特に他のブログを読むと）。
システム全体がいわゆる「おもてなし」の精神で作られており、まずは入り口の検札機で実感できます。磁気カードを当てる場所が、ちょうどよい高さとほどよい角度で据え付けられており、遠くからでもどこに手を当てるかわかり（近づきつつカードを取り出し）、カードを当てると同時に歩きながら上方にスライドさせて離せます。少しこつが必要ですが、この一連の動作の間、立ち止まる必要がありません。
おかげでラッシュアワーの時間でも検札機で混雑することはめったになく、快適にホームに入った後にひしめき合う人間を見て身構える、ということを日常的に繰り返しています。伊勢エビがカゴに入る際も同じような感覚を得るのだと思います。エビはここで学習したことと次の機会に生かすチャンスを与えられませんが、私たち人間は同じことを１００回繰り返すことができて、１００回ともため息をつけます。

Tree power

The roots of a tree invading the steel plate - pretty common, but looking at it makes me wonder about the 'fragile earth' concept: we need to be environmentally friendly to protect this sensitive planet. I totally agree that we should not exploit our environment, if only for keeping giant Panda alive. They are so adorably stupid, lazy, and peaceful. There should be some room for such a creature to exist - we don't always need to be strong, smart, ruthless...I just want to believe being a lazy ass have a good reason on its own. It worked for the Panda, didn't it? Isn't that why they are alive today?

Back to the topic. We might be aware of how fragile our world is, but we might not be aware of how strong it actually is. The apocalyptic world described in movies and novels always shows barren earth, but if the world really falls apart, we might actually have grass fields and occasional forests instead of concrete ruins and desert.

道ばたの木が鉄製の囲いを徐々に侵略しつつあります。どこにでもある光景なのでしょうが、こういうのを見ると、地球とそこにいる生き物は想像以上にたくましいのではないか、と思えてきます。環境をこれ以上無駄に破壊しない、という点ははげしく同意します。パンダを生かしておける環境を用意するだけでも意味があるでしょう。パンダは頭が弱く、怠け者で、平和主義者です。そういう生き物だって存在していい、そういう余裕のある世界の方がいいな、と思っているのですがようするにあまり深く考えず、だらんと生活している人間にもそれなりの意味があるのだ、と単に思っていたいだけかも。パンダにとってうまくいったのだから、人間にもだらける意味があるのでは。あってほしい。

戻って、地球が脆いことはよく研究されているけど、地球が丈夫なことはあまり知られていないのでは、と思えてきます。映画に出てくるような人間（または機械）のせいで荒廃しきった世界はいつも砂漠化して、廃墟で埋められていますが実際には草原と、灌木のある風景が広がるのではないか、と思えてきます。映画としては面白くありませんが。

HCG building

The building is named HCG. Which, according to local statistics, is THE brand for toilets. Every time we face the toilet (I mean in the case of males) their logo is displayed wide and large in front of us. In terms of brand exposure, aren't they getting the lion's share? Regardless of how we feel or what we think, they jump into our sight three or more times a day. Some companies spend millions of dollars trying to steal that little attention from our saturated life - while they, toilet makers, always receive a free ride.
So that is why the building immediately hit a familiar note. Good to be recognized easily, but how do the people inside that apartment introduce where they live? Inside HCG? Inside a toilet? It is different, yes, but.

HCGビル（アパート）が建っています。さて、HCGはこちらでは日本のTOTOと同じブランド力を持つ、陶磁器を使った洗面用品メーカーです。通称、便器です。大多数の企業が消費者の注意を一秒でも長く引こうと、（ほぼ）無駄金を費やして広告競争にあけくれる中、一日に少なくとも３回（男性の場合）、HCGは無料でブランドをアピールできます。必ず目に入るからしかたありません。目をはずすと大変なことになるし。こんなにおいしいブランド力のつけかたが他にあるのだろうか？ビジネススクールのケーススタディになっておかしくないでしょう。
それはともかく、一瞬見ただけですぐに判別可能なのは便利なんでしょうが、ここの住民は自分たちの住所をどう呼んでいるのだろう？HCGビルに住んでいます＝TOTOビルに住んでいます＝便器ビルに住んでいます、まであと一歩。

Toy wars

The new toy Transformers robots are displayed in a huge set. The set is supposedly imitating the climax scene in the real movie, to be released in a month or so.
Tie-ins between movies and toys are part of our lives, but they were supposed to be confined in tiny plastic cases in McDonald's or KFC's, packaged as a gift set for kids. This one is different not only because it is large, but it also reveals the plots before the movie opens.
The good robots and bad robots (they have fancy names, but never mind) fight against each other in the end....around the pyramids! Surprise! There is an ancient secret buried under the ruins, a key to the survival of human race! I made up the last one but it wouldn't be far off the script.
Anyhow, movie tie-ins are evolving. More details, larger size, and you-know-the-story-before-watching-the-movie-but-no-problem. This set reveals how many robots are there and where they fight, at the end of the movie. Add the fact that the good always win. Why watch this movie? But we all do, and curse afterward.

トランスフォーマーの新作映画にあわせておもちゃ屋も気合いが入り、ジオラマを作っています。クライマックスはピラミッド近辺での戦いになる、というのは映画の重要なプロットのはずなのですが、公開前からほぼ全てさらけ出して作り込んでいます。どんな種類のロボット（別の「正式な」言い方があるだろうけど）が出てくるのか、までも一目瞭然です。
味方にしろ悪役にしろ、入り乱れる映画の場合は一体誰が出るのか最後までわからないのが原則だったような気がしますが、そんなものよりおもちゃの売り上げが優先するのでしょう。単なる冷蔵庫／電気カイロだと思っていたら実はロボットだった！てな展開はどうもなさそうです。

Someone is going to wear this, I suppose. Either they made a Halloween costume five months earlier or ... could be the serial killer's mask in the next horror movie franchise.

マスクも同時に作られました。近日公開のホラー映画で殺人鬼がかぶる仮面として使われてほしい、と思います。

Lonesome Jack

It is very likely that this guy is very dead in this very barren land. But he still holds a certain amount of dignity. If the ants living inside this block of land have sufficient intelligence, they would be worshiping this lonely piece of wood, along with their queen, for whatever they need: food, babies, enemies, love. If God exists, He (or it) would be watching over the world as we know just like in this angle, perhaps especially focusing on human beings praying at totally wrong stuff (e.g., dead trees) which seemingly are located at the right place at the right time. He might be sighing but nevertheless does nothing, because it is too damn good an entertainment. They don't know how to look elsewhere.

Days of receiving investment emails are gone. Welcome to the 21st century - they have learned that in order to gain customers' trust, they need to spend something valuable first, which is time. Someone out there actually spent time punching these comments into Skype manually. I know because Mr. Wiredu (or Wierdu?) corrected the last word, my country, from the original China to Japan in real time. Impressive.

So hereby I reply to Mr.Wierdu, to return your favor. It is very possible that I maybe interested in hearing the follow-up to your story.

昔は投資勧誘はメールで一括送信するものだったのですが、今や個別にチャットするところまでサービスが行き届くようになったようです。２１世紀になって、まずは自分の方から誠意を見せないとセールスは期待できない、と彼らも学んだのでしょうか。今やもっとも貴重な資源はもちろん、時間です。
なおかつ彼は一旦メッセージを送ってからすぐに、国を元の「中国」から「日本」に直しています。たいしたものです。
