台湾の街角

なんとなく芸術的な写真になりそうだな、と勘違いしたのでぽつんと一人たたずむベンチを撮った。

サトウキビのジュース。ごりごりと絞って出す。台湾の評価を人に聞くと、このいいかげんさがたまらなく好きだ、という人とたまらなく嫌だ、という２つにわかれやすい。僕は前者だ。多分胃がやられるまでは。現地人でも、外資系に勤めたりアメリカで過ごしたことがありという人は、後者に入ることがよくある。「おいしいんだけどさ、裏でなにやってるかわかんないでしょ。僕も台湾人だからそれは理解できるんだよ」といって、値段が屋台ラーメンの２０倍くらいするステーキを食べていたりする。それでも東京より安いが。

市場では新鮮な肉を売る。ただ「赤い」だけじゃないところが醍醐味で、指やら耳やらとさかやらが混じっているところがよい。これは・・・・頭蓋骨の中に納まっているあれだろうか、それとも胃袋につながっているあれだろうか。

It was just one of those stumbles

I twisted my little finger of my right hand one month ago. Today it still hurts. The doctor told me the bone was not broken but the joints were damaged, and now it is kind of self-healing in a wrong way, that's why it still hurts and.... maybe I have to carry this twisted finger for good. It seems I should have asked for help much earlier.

Until now I cared less about my body. Everything will heal by itself, that was the motto. Now I know there are some things that cannot be taken back. Whenever I shake hands with someone or try to carry heavy things, this finger will tell me this lesson LOUDLY.

Taiwan is a hand-shaking culture rather than bowing culture as in Japan ;-)

ぐるぐる

社会人になって初めての会社勤めをしていたころ、問題が起こると同じところをぐるぐる回ってしまうのが欠点だ、と指摘されたことがあった。　それから６、７年たった今でも「ぐるぐる」を頻繁にやっていることに改めて気づいている。具体的には、問題に手をつけるまでの時間が長いのだ。夕方の５時までかかってまともにこなしたのはメール一通送っただけ、なんてときがあったりするとまさにこの状態だ。

出不精なくせにじっとしているのが嫌いなので、「ぐるぐる」は癖であるが、できれば避けたいやっかいなものである。先へ進まない状態の耐性が低いので、ゲームをやっていても２、３回立ち尽くすとやる気を失う。謎解きやロールプレイングゲームが好きなのだが、おかげで一度もラストまでいったことがない。その代わり先へ進んでいるときは極楽気分を味わう。どこかへたどり着くことではなく、どこでもいいから向かっていることが目的なのだ。これは仕事、私生活全てに当てはまる。

動かないのは嫌いだ＋問題が起こると止まりがちになる　を組み合わせると　とにかく問題を避けたい　という単純かつみみっちい結論になります。俺は日本の政治家と同じなのか？動くのが好きなのだから、問題を解決してそれを快感にすればよい、のも単純な結論なのでそっちへ努力するべきですな。

と自分を鼓舞して「ぐるぐる」から抜けようとしています。

Eros

At a customer site in Taiwan today, I met a girl called "Eros xxx" (xxx is a Chinese name). How on earth she chose an English? name 'Eros' I have no idea.

Some other interesting names I encountered in these Asian regions are Lemon xxx and Steel xxx.

I might use Panasonic. Panasonic Kato - not bad.

Yes, it is nothing about erotic subjects. Apology for anybody accessed this blog being attracted to the title...

When you hear bad news, you feel bad.

When you hear worse news, you feel depressed.

When you hear worst news, you feel relaxed.

And now I am relaxed, ha ha!

Troy

I watched the history epic Troy while staying in a hotel, trying to be divorced from reality when sitting in front of the laptop for several hours in a row.

The battle scenes are surely gorgeous but overall this film lacks the awesomeness found in the older films such as Ben Hur. I think it is not just the matter of how matured you are many films you have seen before. The producers have spent around $50 million (I guess) to bulid the city of Troy and create tens of thousands of CG-soldiers. And they ruined that effect by paying a slightly less amount of money to the stars, which forced us to believe in ancient Greek Warriors played by Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom. And they started a war because of this woman? Beauty and charisma doesn't always go together.

Eric Bana single-handedly (half) saves this problem. He is too believable in his role - he deserves some award nomination if it weren't for this blockbuster film. Brad Pitt once stole the lead from Tom Cruise in Interview with the Vampire, and here he is on the stolen side.

Well the film was enjoyable, especially when you are supposed to be working.....

new iPod

また新しいiPodが出現したらしい。ただのUSBメモリーを白く塗って適当なボタンをつければたちまちトレンディな（死語です、わかってはいるんです）製品に早代わり。

既存のものを使いながら全く新しい組み合わせを考え出した、というのがこれまでアップルが作ってきた一連の製品だった。はずだけど、今回ばかりは「だまされてんじゃないのか」という気持ちが先にたってしまう。

今もっているこれで十分だよ、シャッフルだけじゃないし録音もできるし単４乾電池で動くしメモリーキーになるしFMも聞けるし、とどんどん貧乏くさい考えに支配されつつも冷めた目で見てしまう。

Appleの方針が変わりつつあるのだろうか？ありきたりでもかまわない、と開き直りつつあるのだろうか？だとしたらSteve Jobsはどうしてそういう方針をとったのだろうか？結局興味は尽きない。

Blog again

It is time to resume blogging. I stopped blogging thinking it is just a short time off and something will pretty soon urge me to write. In the meantime why not focus on the day job?

Well the time-off became prolonged for several months and there was never a strong 'voice' coming. Instead the sense of guilt and the feeling that I am wasting something (by doing nothing) balooned - maybe that is the 'voice' I have been waiting.

Writing should be a craft, and mastering the craft takes infinete amount of trial & errors. Why don't I keep writing, even if it is a silly piece of mumbling?
